Pros

Coworkers: The people make Epic what it is. Working with people who are genuinely driven and intelligent is more valuable than any of the stuff they provide. Opportunities: Another huge win is the flexibility you have within your role. I've worked in places where you're really shoehorned into a single spot with no opportunities to grow and develop, can't say that about Epic. Travel opportunities abound: You get a lot of opportunities to travel for work to places around the world. In just the last few years I've had coworkers go all across the country, the UK, Ireland, Dubai, and I know there's an upcoming one to Switzerland. If you really like traveling and getting credit card points, this is a great chance to do that while getting paid.

Cons

Salary: Raises haven't been super great lately. Epic operates on a merit based raise system where employees are ranked based on performance. But even some of the top performers this year didn't see good raises and for the non-developer roles that barely met inflation. Turnover: Because many folks come here right out of college they don't stay very long because part of tech culture is going somewhere, working for like 2 years, then going elsewhere. That means you're constantly meeting new people which can be nice, but is also a burden. Role inequity: there's a whole lot of emphasis placed on recruiting developers which is obviously important as a software company, but there is a weird gap in salary and implicit value placed on developers over the rest of the company. It's understandable that for highly skilled developers, you need to offer salary that is competitive, but they seem to not place that same value on roles that are just as vital to company success. As a trainer, I'm making more than I did working in higher education, but I could also go to any other major corporation or tech company and make significantly more. So far, I've stayed because of the promise of better raises but have been exploring other options because that hasn't seemed to come to reality.
