Pros
The students, the students, the students! I have never had such genuine intellectual relationships with my students, thanks to the self-selecting crowd both at Evergreen generally and in the absence of distribution requirements particularly. Also so many excellent colleagues.
Cons
In times of crisis, lots of confusion at the administrative level, in part because of the lack of departments, which is also what makes some of the best things at the school possible. Under any real pressure, it feels like they don't have a way to focus their attention, make decisions that preserve our core values, and make good faculty choices aimed at supporting our central commitments rather than content coverage.
