Pros

One thing closed on Sundays

Cons

Most of what you do. You are expected to work by yourself pretty much all the time. The company has become a revolving door when it comes to staffing and this add to the working alone. Too goal oriented they have lost all sight of customers and only care about lining their own pockets. Understand that you will have to sell insurance, merchandise, and get (positive) google reviews, all while keeping the entire property clean, following up with delinquent customers, handling customer complaints and question, and renting units all by yourself due to lack of help. I worked for this company for 16 years the last couple of years I could count on 2 hands how many days of double staffing I had working at a site that brought in more then $60000 a month. The DM’s usually come from other company’s and have no idea how Storage works, the company wants to make it more retail but honestly is more realest like, we have strict laws that we have to follow and most times new dm’s just don’t see how they try to blur those lines. Repair and Maint. is another huge area of concern I worked at a site for over 6 years and it had flooding and wall leaking issue before I worked there and still had it when I left, these was most of the complaints that I had to deal with customers having mold it items ohh I’m sorry mildewed items as the insurance company wanted to to describe it, because mildew is not covered in the insurance that we sell. If you decide to work here o would not plan on long term at 1st you’ll be loved then you will see the true colors.

Pros

Solid schedule - 40 hours per week, not expected to be there more than that. No one looking over your shoulder constantly (unless you have a new DM, they can't seem to help it) Mostly great people to work with Local, immediate management does care and are helpful.

Cons

Very large rate increases really upset customers and that's just too bad. We are given word to tell them but it just isn't true. Putting more money in stock holder's pockets is the bottom line and it doesn't matter how much anger we have to deal with. You are absolutely expected to sell insurance to every renter. However, you must be careful because you aren't "insurance salesmen". You get a ding when you don't sell it. We are encouraged to use evasive language and rush through it so the renter thinks it's required without quite saying so. You would think this large of a corporation would have handymen available but it is so, so difficult to get the smallest repair done due to getting bids from vendors, turning them in, reminding the person you turned them in to what needs done maybe getting approval, then scheduling. By that time lights (or whatever) have been out for a month or 2. Benefits are very expensive and cover so little.
