Pros

- Flexible schedule and clinician autonomy - Thorough orientation, training, and on-boarding process - Very friendly staff - Continuing education opportunities - Having a salary

Cons

- The higher-ups in my territory had surface-level knowledge of SLP services and struggled to market for caseload growth in an already saturated and highly competitive area - Poor caseload growth projection. SLP's will need to work twice as hard as their OT/PT counterparts in order to meet their caseload quota (for example, 2-3 patients for an SLP could equate to 1 patient for OT/PT due to how their units are worked out). As a part-time SLP, I was not meeting my caseload quota for months before COVID even hit and I was often asked to travel outside my area to meet that quota. - Poor job security and instability. They can make changes to your employment for what benefits the company at any time with no room for negotiation on the employee's end.

Pros

The biggest pros are the flexibility and autonomy. Being able to create my own schedule has greatly improved my work-life balance, and I appreciate being able to treat patients closer to home. FOX also provides a lot of resources and support for its clinicians. From continuing education opportunities to clinical guidance and helpful treatment resources, I always feel like I have what I need to provide quality patient care.

Cons

One challenge with home care is that last-minute patient cancellations do happen, which can leave unexpected gaps in your day. However, because of the flexible scheduling, it’s usually easy to reschedule those visits later in the week, making it much easier to stay on track with patient care.
