Pros
Base salary is decent. My colleagues are by and large competent and some really a joy and inspiration to work alongside.
Cons
Products are not competitive and are disjointed and difficult to use (where they exist at all/the segment has not already been ceded). Executives have a frequent habit of changing direction/priority whiplash, though every project is somehow still supposedly priority #1. Teams have been stretched thin over the past couple years, set with unachievable deadlines. Todd and the various Cisco executives he's brought in have created an environment where all real progress is inadequate and smoke and mirrors must rule demo day. Voluntary attrition has been high and morale low. At the top line revenue is concentrated in large multi-CDN customers with tremendous leverage and very little interest in using Fastly for anything more than low margin, commodity bit delivery. SMB and all but the most committed commercial customers have difficulty adopting higher margin products like security (if they, lacking an authoritative DNS product, can even get onboard). Compute has for all intents and purposes been a failure both for revenue growth/adoption and technically. Driven by pricing and traffic share pressure from large multi-CDN customers, Fastly has reduced revenue forecast for each of the past 3 quarters and recently announced an 11% layoff. These have reduced the value of equity and likely bonus to a point where total compensation is uncompetitive. Given layoffs, poor prioritization, execution, general leadership, and ongoing reliance on commoditized CDN revenue I don't see this getting turned around with some incredible engineering innovation or commercial sales inroads. I'm looking for other opportunities.
