Awesome for an engineer, leadership still needs some work - Software Engineer Fetch Employee Review

Pros

- Independence and trust in employees (at least, engineers) is huge; no one breathing down your neck unless you're a DRI - Benefits and compensation are great and fair - Strong commitment to career growth and leadership opportunity - Culture is awesome from a white male's perspective. DEI seems to be stronger and amplified more in recent months - Leadership's feedback is often transparent on your performance and where your goals and aspirations align or need to be adjusted

Cons

- Work-life balance is still a bit unhealthy; some leadership indirectly pressures employees to complete their work over their personal needs - By nature of Fetch's organization, it can be chaotic and directionless - The former CTO (David Berk) is simply just an a**hole sometimes; radical candor has been entirely misinterpreted. That said, DB does have real, helpful advice and ambitious vision to provide - Leadership and career growth is inconsistently compensated: people in leadership who are honest about their compensation and responsibilities are in charge of more than they're worth (minus C suite) DRI's aren't compensated for the amount of responsibility they adopt - Layoffs were opaque and hit nearly everyone by surprise. It was argued that not warning people avoided panic; I say that's a backwards and screwed up way to approach others' livelihoods and mental stability

Thank you for taking the time to leave this thoughtful review, and glad to see your positive feedback around DEI, culture, comp, benefits, and transparency. On the transparency point, candor is enormously important to our culture; our CRO often says "clear is kind," and living up to that value across the board is critically important to us. There is no perfect way to do a layoff; it's hard no matter what. The decision to inform folks that a layoff was occurring on the day of the layoff, and not before, was intentional; it was aimed around avoiding stress and panic for days or weeks not just for those who would depart, but also for those who'd remain. We provided generous severance, months of COBRA coverage, and career-placement/resume writing services to the folks impacted by the layoff, with the goal of ensuring everyone would have the time they needed to find their next role. It looks like you're a long-tenured employee, based on your response; I hope you'll reach out so we can connect; I'd love to discuss areas of continued opportunity for making Fetch a place where everyone who wants to succeed, can succeed. (No need, of course, to identify that you're the writer of this review.) Rachel Olchowka, Chief People Officer

Pros

Good benefits, great pto policy, great rewards system, on paper the company looks great

Cons

-incompetent leadership (not all, but a good portion) -bait and switch style hire process -they don't have solid direction on where they are headed so it's a lot of top-down confusion -leaders have heads in the clouds but don't know how the tactical things happen, so there are two different realities amongst execs and the lower level employees doing the work -pay comparisons are questionable -microaggressions, bullying, and bias run rampant as it's not much diversity -absolutely no one knows who does what, so you will spend hours or days finding the right person just to get a task done OR question answered. Causing unnecessary delays and tension. -Because of the ai first nature, a lot of people are hired that don't have a clue what they are doing tactically. So conversations and next steps are written and fueled by ai. -Everyone talks like walking philosopher degrees with unnecessary filler and jargon to SOUND like they know what they are doing, but not enough tactical skill. Semantics are huge here. Because of this, ALOT of miscommunication and confusion happens. -They don't have the proper organization or management tools, just slack heavy... as you can imagine chaos breeds in this space. Everyone says "Welcome to Fetch" instead of just hiring the right leaders to bring structure asap. -The focus is too much on doing whatever to get the job done and hit revenue goals.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. While we are glad to hear that you've enjoyed the benefits and PTO, we are truly sorry to read what you've outlined in the rest of your review. Most importantly, we want to address your mentions of microaggressions, bias, and bullying. We care deeply about creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for everyone at Fetch, and we take your concerns seriously. We would be grateful for the opportunity to look into this further. Please consider reaching out confidentially to our People Experience team at px@fetchrewards.com so we can support you. We also really appreciate your candid feedback regarding role clarity and leadership direction. We understand how a disconnect between strategy and daily execution can cause unnecessary stress, and your insights are helpful as we continue working to improve our internal structure and communication.
