Firefly Aerospace

Is this your company?

Maybe not the worst place to be, but certainly not recommended - Anonymous employee Firefly Aerospace Employee Review

Pros

You get exposure to a lot of different tasks. You certainly won't be bored. The place to be at is Briggs where they are building the rocket and testing the engines. Downside is that the air conditioning is no good and you're far from a lot of conveniences. There's also the occasional rattlesnake sightings.

Cons

Expectation of long work hours and weekends are somewhat typical. You never actually get to design and implement anything properly. Schedule is king and you are told to keep moving despite the schedule getting inevitably pushed back. Hurry up and wait, if you will. So bad habits can be formed if you are in your younger years in your career. Plenty of people are great to work with, but there are a number of individuals that are ego-driven with toxic personalities that have run of the show. It's pretty crazy the type of behavior that some can get away with because they have been deemed as essential to keeping the company afloat. Nobody really knows the budget, but we are consistently told that the company is still in start-up mode and that funding is only good for a short period of time. Pay is not competitive. The mentality of a lot of people is the hope that the company can have fraction of the success of SpaceX, so there's a sense of loyalty to the business. If you aren't fully committed, you're a liability. Turnover (voluntary and involuntary) is extremely high because of the reasons mentioned above. You will be tasked with filling the holes as people leave.

Pros

You will be paid for showing up. You will also be paid the same regardless of whether you are the top performer or the lowest performer.

Cons

They are going to do what they want, so being cautious is probably the best approach. Avoid coming in too aggressively or standing out too much, because being overly strong at your job can end up making you a target within the department. If you strongly value ethics and fairness, this may not be the right environment for you.
