Pros

Making a midlife career change can be intimidating, but my three-year journey at Florence has exceeded all expectations. After 30 years as a nurse and numerous system implementations, I was ready to transition from direct patient care while staying connected to healthcare technology. My passion had evolved toward developing intuitive systems that streamline the complex paperwork burden in clinical trials research. Having previously worked on developing Epic programs for adverse event capture in EMRs, I discovered my love for computer logic and system design. Florence provided the perfect opportunity to expand my IT skills while leveraging my research expertise. Year One: I immersed myself in learning everything possible about the platform and technology. Year Two: I began contributing improvement ideas for both the software and external system integrations, drawing from my first-year foundation. Year Three: I've grown into scoping projects, analyzing customer enhancement requests, and joining the Level 2 support team. Whether I'm demonstrating existing functionality to customers or building use cases for new features, I feel like a detective solving puzzles. There's nothing more satisfying than identifying problems and troubleshooting solutions. What sets Florence apart is the leadership team's genuine commitment to employee growth. They listen with purpose, engage in meaningful idea exchanges, guide skill development, and make the entire learning journey enjoyable. For anyone considering a career pivot, especially in healthcare technology, Florence offers an environment where experience is valued and growth is actively supported. Being able to work from home has made the ability to control my work life balance much more manageable.

Cons

Florence has traditionally been a site-based, site-supported platform, which was a major strength. However, the recent expansion to serve industry sponsors as well has created resource allocation challenges. Projects specifically designed to help research sites sometimes get deprioritized as resources are pulled toward sponsor-focused initiatives. While business growth is positive, this shift can impact the speed and focus of site-centered improvements.
