Pros

*You work from home. *Seek some input from teachers. *Amazing teachers who become your friends. *Schedules can be a bit flexible. *Can travel and work. *One on one time with students.

Cons

*Senior management has lost sight of the original purpose behind FLVS. *Management says one thing, but does another...tell us, talk to us, share your thoughts, ideas, feelings, and then they get mad. *No longer a school mentality, rather a corporate mentality - more money, less care about the teacher spending time with the student. *Too much fear felt throughout organization- teachers are on annual contract, so they have no job security. *Students can complete at any path/any pace, but wait, they are taking too long, so drop them... oh no, keep them, we need them to finish. *No real vacations because teachers have to find coverage for themselves and then return the favor for another teacher. *You work 7 days a week, sometimes before 8am and after 8pm.... you HAVE to reach your students, so you HAVE to do whatever it takes. *Broken promises for teacher incentives, changing rules in the middle of the game without letting teachers know what the new rules are until the game is over.... again, all about money. *Teachers are forced to advertise for the school, as ambassadors, which takes time away from work and requires teachers to travel, etc. *New Pay scale initiative is insane- it is not a ladder, but rather another incentive plan. Ladders have steps, this career ladder has 3 steps- new teacher, post probationary period teacher, Master teacher (who has to jump through fire), and then Super teacher (who has yet to be described) *Focus on logging conversations- not on teaching. *Teachers are the backbone, as they support/make the school, and support the students, yet there is little support for them. *Tell us to take vacations, don't worry about going in red (missing student monthly calls), then we take them and go in red and that puts us off the pay scale for the year. *Using inaccurate data- no leeway, but entire salary based on this data... whether right or wrong or biased student survey scores. *Hiring of administrator (ILs) that have never taught online- have zero idea or experience of what the job is like. *Teachers are credit producing machines- do whatever it takes to save the yield and completion rates or explain yourself at the end of the school year. *Quite frankly, teachers are getting worn out and quitting. High quality teachers who took this job to be a part of an amazing change in education are burned out and have left or have been fired for voicing their opinions. It is virtually impossible to truly do a great job and affect lives of students when a teacher is so overworked. *FLVS has created an ANXIETY GIRL in each of its current employees with all of the politics, chages, and manipulations they have implemented. Return to the core beliefs that you started with, put the student at the center and KEEP it that way.

Pros

I am valued as an educator and treated as a professional. I love my principal and my co-workers. They encourage work life balance and listen to feedback.

Cons

I wish we were paid more but that is education as a whole. I do think FLVS flex pays competitively and I have got a raise every year.

Pros

Flexibility! Ultimate flexible schedule. Day to day I use calendar to schedule appointments and can block out lunchtime, time for a gym class or to pickup or drop off at car line at school. Ability to work from home office in comfort! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️You can set up your space to be most comfortable for you. Coffee breaks and yoga pants all day 🙌🏻Summers are slower in flex so allows more time to do personal summer activities like sit at the pool. Access to email on phone (with a communication stipend) so I can “work” from anywhere. I check email and Teams from grocery store, etc. More time to get to know students during welcome calls and DBAs but I often feel so rushed to complete so many appointments each day that I sometimes don’t feel like I can give each family the time they deserve.

Cons

Can be long hours in front of a computer. Some days I’m stuck in front of my computer for 6-8 full hours with back to back Zoom appointments. It can be REALLY tiring. Heavy workloads pouring peak enrollment times: May/ August and December. Your evaluations are based on your data so parents that do not follow learning expectations and don’t submit coursework affects your negatively. It feels very unfair and frustrating. Monthly classroom walk throughs with your principal feel like a formality and waste of time for high performing instructors. For the workload, I do think salary should be higher. Student loads can be really high in August and December with over 180-200 enrollments at once to balance. It’s a lot. Work-life balance is grossly unbalanced during these times.
