Pros

Benefits were good. Hours were pretty good. It was nice to have an on-site gym and cafeteria (though overpriced). Also, being able to purchase into the mutual funds at NAV was a very nice perk.

Cons

This place was terrible, except for the benefits. When I was hired, the interviewers made it sound like I would be doing more than just "working in a call center". When I got on the floor, I found out it was the exact opposite of what they told me. I was told I'd be trained to process and do correspondance, but instead was just pushed to take back-to-back calls all day (if you weren't taking 80-100 a day during tax season, you got lectured by your supervisor). Pay was very, very low. Started at $27k/year (and I have a bachelor's degree in business!). After I started working there, I was shocked that they could convince finance, accounting, management majors from good schools to work there for $27k/year. Promotions were hard to come by. When I was there, they started shipping all of the processing to India, and layoff rumors were starting. I got out just in time. A while after I left, they did layoffs of about 150 people. Whenever a job would post in another part of the company, you'd get so many people applying that your chances of actually landing it were slim to nil. Eventually, I looked around and saw that I was sitting in a call center with 140 people just like me (college business degrees, smart) and realized that unless I was a major butt-kisser I'd never get anywhere in the company. Very clique oriented. It's like high school. All of the "beautiful people" make friends and treat everyone else like the don't exist. Management tends to favor these people. When I was there, a Sr. VP would come down to the call center just to flirt with the pretty girls. It was pretty disturbing. He never even spoke to anyone else, just always went to "visit" with the same young girls over and over (he was quite a bit older than they were, which made it more strange). Managers in the call center (above the supervisors) didn't seem to really care about the employees and rarely came out of their offices. Supervisors were very self-centered, really didn't want to help anyone (unless you were one of the abovementioned "beautiful people"). Time and time again I would get angry shareholders on the phone, usually mad because someone in India made a processing mistake which cost them money, demanding a supervisor. Supervisors wouldn't take the calls unless you begged. Turnover is pretty high. The were running new-hire classes almost monthly when I was there. I was really upset when I found out that everyone in the class after mine was paid more than all of the people in my class, then, when those folks came onto the floor, we were expected to help train them and answer their questions. It just didn't seem fair. No one really seems happy there. Seems like those who stay do so because they don't know how to find another job, or are just too lazy to try. I used to really laugh becuase they always had free coffee service. But it was so disorganized and infrequent that every time they came to replenish the stock (tea bags, hot cocoa, splenda) all of the CSRs would go off the phones, run to the coffee bars, and swipe whatever they could find so that the could hoard it at their desks. Also, during tax season, the would provide free lunches on Mondays, but by the time I would have my lunch break, the food had been sitting out for 2+ hours. I got sick after eating a roast-beef sandwich once time. (I mean, come on! Keep hot food hot, keep cold food cold, it's not rocket science!) I blame that on the management who didn't seem to care, would grab their lunches and just run back to their offices. After that, I stopped eating the free lunch. Overall, this place is not good. I would not go back.

Pros

Good benefits (401K match, employee stock options, etc.), depending on the department you work in you could have some decent flexibility regarding work from home,

Cons

Incredibly disorganized from the very top of the organization which only gets worse as SVPs and EVPs don't retire and just clog the hierarchy. Everyone is involved in the decision making process which means that no decisions end up getting made, or they are made too late and then the executives sacrifice a lower level manager for not acting quick enough. Certain corporate departments that aren't directly involved in client facing environments get treated incredibly poorly by the client facing departments. Raises are nonexistent (not even 3%).
