The legacy is dying

Pros

Nice work-from-home policy generally. Good vacation allowance and benefits.

Cons

This was a fantastic place to work until the Legg Mason acquisition. The company cared about employees and provided a great environment. And it was very profitable. Somehow even though Franklin acquired Legg, virtually ALL of the senior management positions have been taken by ex-Legg people. The cronyism is strong. Deadbeat LM folks keep jobs while talented Franklin people are given the boot. Legacy Franklin people are constantly in the crosshairs. If you're an older worker, you're especially dispensible. It's obvious and it's really sad. If you're a new hire -- even an incompetent one -- or ex-Legg, you're in much better shape than if you are an old Franklin employee. And if you want to survive, then you're constantly kissing ___.

Pros

I cherished many colleagues at Franklin Templeton. The firm is filled with very smart people, with much integrity across the board. Investment professionals take their fiduciary responsibilities seriously. Also, working there was a great learning experience. Of course, the benefits are excellent, and there is stability in working for a fortune 500 type company.

Cons

Morale is low. Franklin missed the ETF boom, and is losing assets to index managers and other low cost providers. So, assets and revenues are moving backwards. My sense is that take-home pay is moving backwards for most folks as well, which is tough, as the firm is based in high-rent San Francisco area. Every year employees get asked to do even more with less. Many employees are discouraged, and would rather work for a company with more growth.

Pros

Pay, awesome 401k match, chill environment, decent campus (but terrible cubicals), plenty of nice people, average restaurant on site, decent gym

Cons

Nepotism and favoritism in hiring and promotions, culture of passive aggressiveness with no accountability, not very good at core business functions
