Corrupt Company As a Whole - Personal Shopper Fred Meyer Employee Review

Pros

Good insurance through the union, ability to pick up shifts, solid coworkers

Cons

Upper management expectations, lack of hours available. I've been at Fred Meyer for almost 3 years and I've been trying to leave for almost one, just haven't found anything else yet. The company as a whole does not care about the employees or their experience; they track our every move for peak productivity, not understanding how many factors are out of our control. They're the most understaffed they've ever been, yet they base available hours on profits, so they say they can't afford to schedule or hire more people. Everyone is burnt out and struggling. Store management can be found stocking shelves, baking cookies, shopping for the pickup orders, and more, because every department is desperate. Yet when a corporate walk comes around, we stock our shelves to overflow (which causes waste a week later) to make sure we don't get in trouble with the higher ups. Kroger is a corrupt company and the minute I can leave, I will.

Pros

I would say the most important Pros is benefits for all employees and employee's discount.

Cons

Even though it says "flexible hours", it is not really flexible. The pay is not fair. Cashiers in non-food departments get less pay than cashiers in front-end doing the same job. The management is different by the store as well as the work environment and culture.
