Pros
I worked at GLC as the HR Director for 3 years. I left almost one year ago and generally wait after I leave an employer to write a review, so I can be as objective as possible. At the time I was there the owners were great people to work with. I reported to the COO, John Hayes and of the all the people I've reported to over the course of my career, John was the best. He was fair, objective, empowering and a great listener and he had common sense. I was always proud to call John my friend. The company was constantly evolving and appeared to me to be somewhat behind in the HR function when I first arrived. I believe over the course of (3) years many changes were made for the good of the employees and managers, but the journey wasn't easy. Whenever there are changes, more work is involved and sometimes the reception to or the understanding of that work isn't always well received. It was part of the price of progress. Managers at the various sites were treated well and recognized often and the owners knew just about every employee by name and also knew something about each of them. I always felt comfortable stating my case on various topics and not once did I feel the owners weren't listening. GLC is a great company to work for and should continue to do well as it evolves. I'm grateful for the experiences I had with them and wish them well.
Cons
The company would do well to have a written strategic plan as it gets larger to stay focused each year. Part of that plan should be a strategy to build relationships between disciplines such as Operations, HR, Finance, etc. This wasn't in place when I was there and I felt at times we were moving in different directions.
