Pros
Flexible time work, Decent Benefits, few great BPs
Cons
cut throat people, some leaders are gullible, lack of transparency, no investment in their own future, talent, bad pay. racism, bias, poor chance of advancement, I worked here for many years (say over 7), and I never had issues and always had exceeds do they day I no longer worked for Gap Inc. I was the top performer go getter that never missed an exceed always was at the top to the last day. Until the last two years my view changed on how Gap graded performance. When Art Peck said that the 3 goals of the company included employee talent, I was excited. Previously, Gap did not promote and invest in personal growth, so all growth depended on the employee. I could not go to any seminar, they never wanted to fund them. Only college reimbursement or anything to maintain your certifications was funded (minimal investment). We never saw any retain talent initiatives, just a severance package to help you out the door. Then they took a few benefits way little by little. 2018 bonus really frustrated everyone. At the CSSC we all exceeded our goals for org bonus and of course there are a few who really. Instead of rewarding us, during the review process they changed the rules and said, "it was decided, no bonus", then later during a townhall meeting, Art said which amounted to "get over it". Frustrating as it is, they also said, we are splitting the company and spinning Old Navy off and we bought another brand Janie and Jack for 40 mil, (it was rumored that our bonus fund was 80mil and on top of that, Bloomberg reported that the CEO was the highest paid among his peers. after looking at the data, it was 400% more or so. Seems like they funded all this with our Bonus. That is frustrating when the leader says, we are taking your pay, buying more work and am getting more than my fair share of CEO compensation and then adding 2 big task on top and you might not get paid for it because we can change the game after you cross the finish line and sales are bad but we don’t care. No bonus money might be available event though you are working harder than ever. Add in the mass exodus of quality employees and knowledge base lost and you have good recipe for watching the headlines. I can testify, there were many times that I was putting in 70-80 hours easy. you add all that with improper compensation as my duties were was underpaid for what I was doing and how they were using me, (I really felt like I was taken advantage of). This is true for many, as this is likely why many left or do not event take a job there. Once you know your worth, you realize your under paid. On top of that, some less talented people are paid more than the talented one (you see this as leader). Also add that they pay white women more than ethnic people in general (HR made a comment to me about that without me asking for that info). I can also mention that I encounter some racism during my longer years there and towards the end, when I reported it, I do not think any action was taken. I bet because they are desperate to keep the few employees with experience that they have on board. I can easily recall at a minimum 4 instances if not more. During 2019 you can see all the talent leaving. Getting anything done became harder as all the experts left or are worked to death, and more of the questionable employees stayed behind. As you can tell by the headlines, the tipping point came. the CEO was fired and now the Old Navy Spin off was scrapped. And a brand president stepped down. I would not be surprised if sales are poor when reported. Despite all this, as I stated I really enjoyed my work. I was a rising star, came up fast and was well respected. I was victim of the change in culture and the conversion to a hostile work environment at Gap. I really feel bad for those who are good employees and work hard. I am sure many of those who left sympathize for all those BPs who absorbed duties from all the experts who left and must struggle with the lack of expertise that was lost and who are genuinely good employees. For those free coasters making a name off of other people's efforts, you reap what you sow. I bet work is hard to perform now that most of the good people are gone and all this knowledge base has left. Still until then, I enjoyed working there and maybe after they clean house and get a real CEO leader that understands the employee stake holder aspect is just as important as the external and as fundamental to provide great product and services, there might be a turn around and i would like to return. Gap Inc good luck!
