Pros
Flexible hours, good if you have kids. You get paid every other week. Some good people.
Cons
Where do I begin? Pretty much everything except for the very short list of pros. HR is comprised of the most offensive harasser who is super inappropriate most of the time and someone who talks around and over you, but says a lot of nothing, lies and is ineffectual. Sure, he'll lure you in with false promises, but don't fall for it. The company is run by three moody brothers who grunt and growl at you and are so behind the times it is embarrassing. There are surveillance cameras all over the office. It can't be for the fear of theft because the equipment is out of date, no one would want it, and the products we sell are so cheap and poorly made no one wants them. They even have cameras in the lunch rooms. Most of the office is hot and stuffy. The air conditioning is rarely on, which makes it almost unbearable on hot days. The is also an array of unpleasant odors that assault your senses upon walking into the office. There are your usual roaches and rats, but there have also been infestations of biting insects. They've sprayed the office a few times, but the bugs are probably just hiding in the old dirty carpet that covers the office. People have been known to trip on the carpet because it sticks up in high traffic areas. Ladies in heels, people pushing cartloads of products beware. Catch a ripple in the carpet and you'll be eating that carpet. Nothing matches. All of the furniture looks like it came from yard sales with stains and broken pieces. Office chairs are faulty and have a habit of dropping or falling backwards at any moment. The parking lot is a hazard and is in desperate need of re-paving. Park at your own risk. There are signs up stating this too. It is not uncommon to discover new dents and scratches on your car after a long day of work. If you're lucky, the person who hit your car will confess and try to make it right. If not, tough luck. If you park on the wrong side of the street too long, HR may call the parking enforcement on you because they want to keep the street open for possible Outlet shoppers or food delivery people. If you come later, there is not enough parking in the lot. You can't win. The Gibson slogan is "People are our #1 priority". I don't know who these people are, but it is clearly not their employees. If you aren't a director or VP of something, you are grossly underpaid. I mean, it's ridiculous. They say they have full benefits, sure, but you have to contribute a lot of your measly paycheck to have these benefits. The medical is not great, and if you want dental, you have that option for another paycheck deduction. 401k is a joke. No matching. You get 6 days of sick leave per year, 5 days of vacation AFTER your first year and 10 days AFTER your second year and every year after. There is a lot of favoritism in the office. If you've managed to last 10 years or more, you're golden. You can pretty much sit on your duff and get paid to do very little as long as you suck up to management. Sure, go ahead and spend your days shopping online, bossing people around and reverting to a whiney baby when things don't go your way as long as you're two-faced and have your lips glued to your boss's rear. Odds are you are never going to find a cushier job because your skill set and like ability has mush to be desired, so you might as well die here. Feel free to harass people too because HR won't do anything about it. You can be a horribly inappropriate and the most that will happen is you get an extended vacation and you can come back later as if nothing ever happened. There are a few employees here with a lot of seniority that actually work hard, but they are treated poorly. These people have hearts of gold but are treated like garbage. overtime is supposedly encouraged, but is you are hourly, they may convert you to salary so they don't have to pay you anything extra. There is no room for upward mobility here. Sure, that might give you a title change, but the salary will not reflect it. Certain salaried employees like to throw their weight around, make up stories to make themselves look good and others bad, and take advantage when their managers aren't around. Nice for them, but unfair for the people who are waiting on information from them in order to complete their jobs. They get rewarded by being blamed for doing nothing and fired. Own up to your laziness and shortcomings and stop trying to blame it on everyone but yourself. The people who actually work are ignored and taken advantage of. The more you do, the more they expect of you while everyone else slacks off. Hard work also makes you a target. Take a break and you get scolded like you are a child. Chat for a few minutes with a friend and you are a troublemaker. If you happen to be favored by the management gods, feel free to nap, watch YouTube videos, laugh at the top of your lungs, take 2 hour lunch breaks, come in late and leave early (if you are salaried), bully newer employees, and/or do nothing at all. Pretty sweet, am I right? Year end bonuses are a joke. It doesn't even keep up with inflation. Don't count on a big raise, ever. Work yourself to the bone. It doesn't matter. When it comes to bonus time, management will go out of their way to find reasons not to give you anything. Did you go to the bathroom too many times one day? Oops, you weren't being productive, no raise for you. Do you like hearing overhead pages like you work in a grocery store? Then this is the place for you! It is funny how it's always the same people using the paging system, but they still don't know how to use it. If you work here, they encourage referrals. Do you have any friends that you secretly hate? Get them a job here and you get rewarded with 2 free movie tickets and someone who will resent you for the rest of their life. Have an opinion on making your job more efficient, saving the company money and making everyone happy? Keep it to yourself. They will only see it as a challenge to their job and try to get rid of you. Someone mentioned a holiday luncheon. Yes, there is an in office thanksgiving lunch provided by the company. The food is usually cold and not very good. Along with your traditional thanksgiving fair, you may also find some kind of Asian noodle dish and pizza if you're lucky. A strange combination, but something for everyone, unless you are at the back of the line, then you get whatever is scraped up out of the corners of the foil pans. If you work in the warehouse, you get a frozen turkey, which is way better. Each department will have their own holiday lunch, so it really depends on the manager. Some lunches are better than others. There are 2 restrooms in the office that employees are allowed to use. However, one is usually out of order because of the outdated plumbing. There are 2 kitchen sinks that are usually clogged because of inconsiderate employees who dump food down the drains. Did I mention that the water that come out of the faucet is brown? Well, not all the time, but it varies from cloudy to Brown. There's free coffee in the lunch room, but it isn't very good.
