Pros
Tons of professional development/recertification hours offered for free. You can move horizontally on the salary scale if you rack up enough PD hours. Duty only twice per week before or after school. Many of the elementary schools have late morning start times (8:45 at the school I taught at).
Cons
As a teacher you start out with a "bank" of 2 personal days for time off. That's it. You accrue 90% of a day each month. If you have small children in daycare that get sick and you end up missing days before you accrue them, your pay will be docked. There is an insane amount of assessment you have to give your students; so much that you wonder if you had enough time to teach the material before assessing your kids. The district is very segregated and doesn't work together. Each school site seems to work alone.
