Business Outlook
Pros
Incredibly supportive and tight-knit environment, great benefits, and surprisingly competitive pay for nonprofit research jobs. Also, upper management actively encourages you to take care of yourself. We got several spontaneous days off in 2020 and 2021 to increase morale at the height of the pandemic.
Cons
While Gladstone is technically a part of UCSF, it's also a separate nonprofit, so staff doesn't get to unionize the way UCSF staff does. That being said, our base salaries are higher than theirs, so we don't really need to at this point. If you're in a research position, of course, your experience will be heavily influenced by your relationship with your principal investigator, so make sure it's a healthy one.
