Pros

Management was rarely in the DX, they only can around for safety meetings, paperwork, dropping off supplies or firing and hiring employees. The work was easy, yet the policies changed so often that what you memorized to tell customers could change daily, so you had to check emails every morning to make sure.

Cons

Heavy lifting, not for feeble yet many fellow employees I met were either elderly, crazy, or super young high school and college students and this was one of their first jobs. For the elderly crowd if was their last job before retirement. For the crazy, this was the only place that would hire them. Workplace bullying, sexual harassment, political and religious harassment and favoritism was rampant. Also, Goodwill is lawsuit scared, news media scared, and frequently paranoid about loss prevention to the point of having cameras everywhere, strict policies, a reporting hotline and management that was quick to accuse if you were doing anything out of the ordinary because it was nearly the only way to fire someone on the spot. Like a witch hunt. So even though to get hired you had to do a criminal background check and drug test, they ask you if you are stealing. If they can’t peg that on you as an honest citizen then they pull out the “time theft” policy and claim that you are stealing company time by taking a break or sitting down at all during the work day. Crazy place.

Cons

The entire corporate office is beyond ignorant. Completely out of touch with reality, price gouging customers trying to raise profit margins for the non profit. Everyday at any second one call from corporate and there is a change to how everything has to be done, usually causing more issues only to blame people who had nothing to do with their ideas. They don't let the store manager be a store manager.. in fact, I'll sum up everything you need to know in one sentence.. they went as far as to install systems to remotely control the thermostat from their comfy corporate office. Imagine not just the employees but the customers constantly complaining. That is how out of touch with reality they all are.
