Pros
I have been here for over a year now, and let me just say this job will have its ups and downs, but mainly downs. I will start off with the good. I have met the most amazing people here, people that I now call my best friends and people that are just inspiring and have such good energy to them. If I am having a stressful day, my coworkers easily bring up my mood. Before working here I hadn’t had much experience with being in a workplace, but as time has passed I have seen myself grow and develop skills that I will need in the future. I have also gained a love for children working here and even made friendships with them, it’s pretty cool.
Cons
Now here is the bad. In the beginning, this job really was easy and fun with all the friends I had. Management seemed to actually care about the opinions of employees here. And my paychecks were so much better than what I was getting at my previous job. But as time went by, things really started to decline drastically. FAVORITISM IS REAL HERE I read all the reviews on here about favoritism and I couldn’t agree more with that statement. Favoritism plays a huge role in this workplace. There are people here that should have been fired for incidents that should never be acceptable in a job, but didn’t because they were liked among lifeguards and management. Then there is people that got fired for the dumbest reasons you could think of, where if you thought that if a favorite did whatever that person did, they definitely WOULDN’T have gotten fired. Guests & children are rude I have been cussed at, I have been threatened, I have been harassed and I have been greatly disrespected by guests in this waterpark. It’s those moments that have caused me a significant amount of stress and anxiety, so if you are sensitive and are prone to anxiety, DO NOT WORK HERE. Its funny cause its more the adults/parents that cause me stress than the children. The children can be so horrible at times too, but I mainly blame the parents cause most of time they’re not even watching their children and probably getting drunk by the bar that’s in the waterpark or on their phones sitting somewhere on the other side of the park. I have seen parents not even watching their toddlers and act as if we are the child’s baby sitter. Some of my coworkers have gotten it worse where guests got violent and became physical with them or even got spit on. Fatigue I will have morning shifts where I will come in so exhausted because I had a night shift the day before. Your legs will hurt from standing so much. I got the worst blisters from shoes being wet all day. Eyes will burn like crazy somedays. Or sometimes you will be at a certain spot for so long that you literally feel yourself disassociate as you’re watching your water. It gets so hot and humid in the park that I will need to go the restroom just to breathe since its the closest area thats air conditioned. Lastly, sometimes I am worried about the kind of people they hire here. There have been incidents of a lifeguard stealing another lifeguard’s belongings. One time police had to get involved. Fortunately after a week they were able to retrieve their belongings, but the lifeguard said they felt as if they received no emotional support or help from management. Only from certain supervisors and coworkers. Seemed like they did not care whatsoever or just did not want to talk about it. The lodge’s security didn’t even care as well. After hearing about that, it really changed my perspective on the managers there and realize the lack of concern they have for the well being of their lifeguards. HR also sucks too.
