Pros

Good people to work with, and I was part of a good team

Cons

A rent a car company is not easy to run, it requires high borrowing from banks, increasing cost of maintenance and fleet cost, high airport fees, a variety of competitors for corporate accounts, and savvy tech brokers with high fees for leisure customers. All of these combined with several older VP’s with little idea of how technology has evolved, created Hertz Europe, a big logistics enterprise that runs at negative margins and underperforming shares which create pressure to invest even less, constantly impacting jobs in operations, but never the high salaries and expensive travel of senior management. I worked for Hertz Europe for many years, and from Michele (The guy who once said, believe it or not, I am not God) to Tracy (who never bothered leaving her office), this was always a poorly run company full of red tape, politics, secrecy, and overall, a lack of the true leadership needed for a company with these type of challenges

Pros

A high investment in learning opportunities and engagement with customers.

Cons

Suffers from downsides of all other rental companies. Overbooking, understaffing.

Pros

It is possible to make a difference if you are determined enough. Many engineers work hard and most try.

Cons

The company has a ton of tech debt that it recognized, but is not being addressed. Management controls the time, scope and so quality is falling. The people they have hired lack fundamentals understanding of software development practices. The company often will make decisions to save small amounts of money with their facilities and tools they give to employees without understanding the opportunity cost that was lost. Overtime is required. You can't work here if you want to have a family or keep your family from hating you. Title inflation is real. Many people are actually performing one level down from their stated title and those that are not are only not failing due to putting in crazy hours. Middle management wont stickup for their people to ensure they are not burning out. They see it happening multiple times in front of them and they do nothing.
