Pros

The employee discount is the only intended “Pro” for working at Hertz, especially the SMF location. An unintentional perk is that hardly anyone takes the job seriously from hikers to managers, and anyone can do anything they want!

Cons

*you’re not trained at all, you are thrown into the job and have to figure it out *no one tries, has to try, is forced to try, or is scared of consequences if they don’t *there’s a complete lack of discipline, and a no real procedures to follow (further enabling doing nothing) *there’s a lack of understanding of company policy across the board, and will receive conflicting “factual” information from multiple higher ups which trickles down to the bottom *Half the workforce should be retired or given positions that can best accommodate their state or be told to uphold the level of work expected of us *lack of discipline has created a work culture around doing the bare minimum, making more work for everyone in the long run *managers are only active when necessary or an external force (i.e. supervisors being around or holidays) requires them to be out *Effort is not recognized, as stated many times all you have to do is show up and physically walk around to guarantee a paycheck. As long as you don’t act a fool you’ll be fine and even then you can get away with a lot. So much that people brag and share stories on how they haven’t worked or how to not work. This makes new hires slightly inefficient sometimes because they see how it is from the jump. *non union workers get absolutely screwed on holidays and the base pay is atrocious, I think considering that when it’s not cold we’re always working hard and it doesn’t feel worth it at all. A little above minimum wage should be offered, as well as, personal performance and achievements being looked at for potential raises

Pros

A high investment in learning opportunities and engagement with customers.

Cons

Suffers from downsides of all other rental companies. Overbooking, understaffing.

Pros

It is possible to make a difference if you are determined enough. Many engineers work hard and most try.

Cons

The company has a ton of tech debt that it recognized, but is not being addressed. Management controls the time, scope and so quality is falling. The people they have hired lack fundamentals understanding of software development practices. The company often will make decisions to save small amounts of money with their facilities and tools they give to employees without understanding the opportunity cost that was lost. Overtime is required. You can't work here if you want to have a family or keep your family from hating you. Title inflation is real. Many people are actually performing one level down from their stated title and those that are not are only not failing due to putting in crazy hours. Middle management wont stickup for their people to ensure they are not burning out. They see it happening multiple times in front of them and they do nothing.
