Pros

Since day one, I have always found that High Liner Canada has a welcoming and collaborative culture. The company’s ‘East Coast’ roots are evident, even at the Toronto office where I am based. The new leadership team (Keith Decker and Jeff O’Neill) has spent a lot of time making sure everyone knows and understands the company mission and most importantly, ‘why’ we do what we do. They meet with us at least every 3 months to provide business updates, share information about future initiatives, and answer questions. They are both focused on distributed leadership and empowering us, which I see a great opportunity. The great thing about our culture is that everyone has the power to make change – everyone’s voice is important. People are respectful of one another and are open to new ideas. Whether you’ve been here 5 months or 5 years, they will listen with an open mind and respect your opinions. It’s also refreshing to see how the company invests in our training and development. I’ve never worked for a company that has been so focused on developing its people. It makes a big difference - especially for morale.

Cons

Distributed leadership can be a challenging thing for some people
