Pros
You can pretty much get as many hours as you want. If you ask for 40/week on average you'll get it. Some weeks will be 32, others will be 42+ There are a lot of call outs so if you want overtime you can get it.
Cons
Hours are usually 9-12 hours at a time. There are no scheduled breaks. You are at the mercy of however many people come to the pool. At LA Fitness locations, having no one for more than 5 minutes is a rarity. Gym goers expect the pool to be open from the minute the gym opens to the minute it closes. But you don't get paid to get there before opening and you couldn't even get in if you wanted to because a manager has to open the doors. So most of the time you have no time to properly open/check chemicals or set anything up before people come into the pool. If you stop to use the bathroom on your way in at opening time, people will be in the water before you have a chance to do anything. Also, no one respects you or your position. If you tell anyone anything it has no affect unless you go get a gym manager, yet they aren't even your manager. No one understands the the gym and pool are managed by different companies. Very frustrating. You definitely don't get paid enough for all the crap you have to put up with. But if you work enough hours you can barely make enough to get by. Definitely be looking for a real job while working here if you're not just doing it for the summer.
