Pros

-company vehicle, cell phone and computer -time off and good work/life balance -flexibility on how you structure your day

Cons

Since starting with the company 15 years ago it has completely changed and not in a good way. I totally get that things need to change in order for a company to grow but not in the way that hilti has changed over my time here. As a direct result of all the changes Hilti has lost some of their best people in the process. These former employees not only served as great resources for knowledge about products but also how to tackle a typical day in the field or advice for that tough customer that you are struggling to connect with. They would rather hire young kids out of college with zero sales experience and pay them much less than the tenured employee who they have replaced. The micro management was also a direct result of those hires and their accusation of salesforce. I went from having one-two face to face meetings with my team per year to one every month on top of the kick off meetings and other required face to face meetings that pop up regularly. I also meet with my team every other week virtually for an hour, which again never happened before and is just a waste of everyone’s time. The icing on top are the new role play sales competitions they force us to participate in that happen twice a year, for now at least. Taking a account manager out of the field to play make believe at the end of the quarter is not the best use of my time. I can see how it might benefit others but for a top level account manager my peers and I should be exempt from even participating. If I started with this company today I would see it as a stepping stone for my next job not a job that I’m going to retire at. They like to say their pay structure and benefits are competitive but I believe we are at the bottom of the barrel. Merit increases happen once a year and are never higher than 5%, that 5% is only given if you actually hit all of the metrics they lay out if you don’t it’s more like 1-2%. I can keep going but just like the geos(global employee opinion survey) it doesn’t matter what I write no one is going to listen they only pretend to care. So if you are looking for a real career and the chance to make 200k plus per year look elsewhere.

Pros

You are your own boss and run your own territory as you see fit. Great products and highly regarded name in the industry.

Cons

Upper-level management is instituting more and more KPIs. This would be fine if Salesforce was more automated for the company, but there is a heavy manual component to input all of your conversations, opportunities, and leads. As an Account Manager you are expected to wear too many hats and it takes a long time to get ramped up to be effective in the job. You are expected to be a subject matter expert on many different product lines, handle logistics, credit issues, stock shortages, and be able to communicate effectively on jobsites all the way up to the C-suite level.
