Pros

Co-workers (typically) are good people. Decent benefits package

Cons

-No college tuition reimbursement, which is odd because they focus on educators... -The company is top heavy. There are too many managers and directors that don't do anything. -When claims employees get burned out, they stop doing all of their work. That's not a swipe at them, but more a show of the hopelessness people have due to the extreme work loads, lack of staffing, and non-existent support from managers and executives. -They don't keep their promises. I won roughly 10 "Lunch on the VP" certificates in a two year period. No VP ever bought me lunch. -No separation of jobs. At the end of my time with HM I did the job of 3 adjusters. Liability/PD adjuster, Diminished Value, and light BI. This experience has made me desirable to other companies, but the work load was not manageable. -Management doesn't listen to employees. I told my manager for months that my claim load was excessive(receiving ~10 new claims per day that needed investigation for liability, repair, etc..) I think all of the PD teams were approved for 10 adjusters. Our team was the busiest and needed 12-14 and we had 6 because our manager kept firing people. They finally came in and said they had decided our team needed additional adjusters, beyond what was approved for the other teams. They never hired any. -No perseverance from management. In two years I saw them hire 3 different bosses for my job. Each time the person would come in and change the entire process. The process would be "tweaked" every few weeks because it was not working perfectly. They would then do a major change to it after a few months (effectively implementing a new process). They would then "tweak" that every few weeks. The boss would see it not working and quit before they could fire him. They would hire someone else and it would start all over again. -Managers and VP's don't know what they are doing. I would go to meetings about something like reserves and changing the process of how/when to open them. Two days after the meeting we would get a mass email telling us to go back to the old process. This kind of stuff happened a lot. -No punishment for inept employees. I was often sent files where the customer was livid because the adjuster wouldn't return their calls(this was very common due to the work load). I would call the customer and ripped a new one, then fix their problem. The offending adjuster would never have anything done to them about it. It was always the same adjusters, -Management coddles certain employees. I worked with a girl that was new to claims. On two occasions she got frustrated and left a customer on hold and walked out of the office. HM management, in an effort to keep her from quiting, promoted her to BI. Two weeks later she parlayed that into a job with another company and quit anyway. I'm confident that if she were ugly they would have fired her. -VP's pretend to care, but don't really. I once had EVP Allan Robinson sit in our team pod to watch us work to support the claim that we needed more adjusters and that certain processes were flawed (basically to get an understanding of our job). He was there for 3 hours. He was text messaging on his phone the entire time. Why did he even bother? Many of the people in management and at director levels at HM are the personification of Peter's Principal. For those of you that don't know what that is, it is a theory that in organizations such as corporations and the military, people will be promoted to the level directly above their competence. They will then stay there. I also wouldn't believe any positive review for HM. I have been gone for over two years, but still keep in touch with people that work there... Nothing has changed.
