Pros
They have a lot of nice people in the field, met lifelong friends while working. The niche market is special, working for teachers is a great feeling
Cons
There are some serious issues going on at Horace Mann. CEO and upper management have no value or appreciation for the work and dedication of their field management. Each year they have cut field resources and employees by 1/3, a lot of times it seems like they randomly chose who they were going to fire. They are not at all competitive in pricing in their niche market, making the agencies struggle more and more every single year. Compensation changes for the agents occur almost annually, if not more, and they are continuing to cut those compensation rates, which is detrimental to their middle group of agents. They hire ONLY to hit a staffing number, with no regard to the individual and the decision that they are making, and will fire them just as fast. The CEO is only making herself look good for the board, and does not care about the destruction she leaves in her path. Field Management is working twice as hard for no increase in pay, and are being held accountable for things that are completely out of their control. With current leadership the way that it is, this company will not last. 75+ years of helping educators is being thrown away along with their reputation as the Educator company.
