Pros

Wonderful clients and a joy to serve them, to see the positive outcomes and changes in their lives. Excellent co-workers who love and care and only want the best for their clients.

Cons

Employees are subject to and made to feel inferior. Rather than a workplace, it's like elementary school where staff are micromanaged at every turn. They are not trusted in any way, shape or form. The CEO controls everything, everyone, every movement, every breath. If you speak against him, you won't be there long. You are there to carry out his orders in order to further his personal objectives to the detriment of the agency as a whole. Any successes are attributed to his wonderful leadership and guidance, without which the agency would be a miserable failure. Wait! It is failing but surely it's not his fault. Must find someone else to blame. Off with their head! Meetings, meetings, meetings, more meetings. Wait! We need more meetings. WHAT IS THE OBSESSION WITH ALL THE MEETINGS? How can anyone be productive when they are too busy in meetings all of the time to get any work done. Supervisors are not available to staff at all. They barely have time to eat, particularly when meetings are scheduled during lunch hours. The CEO doesn't eat so you shouldn't either. He even controls what you eat or rather don't! Fear doesn't lead people to God, neither does it lead people to follow a CEO that rules with fear. Make a mistake, step out of line, dare to open your mouth and disagree, and you will be facing unemployment. People will never be motivated by threats and intimidation and it certainly won't make them respect you. No one should be put in the position of feeling like their job is something they must do to survive rather than something that they want to do because they love doing it. That's the sad thing. Staff who went into this field for the love of it are having the love of it taken right out of them. Excessive work hours, impossible demands, intimidation, and fear are causing a mass exodus at Horizon. A job is a job, but people do have a life. Their personal life is not up for disruption at all hours of the day and night. People should be able to disconnect when they go home. Instead, the CEO feels that he has the right to rule even when people have left work for the day. He thinks their life begins and ends when he says so. It's not acceptable to be sick or to have a sick child or a family emergency. It's not acceptable to actually have a day off or to have a weekend. You better cater to his demands 24/7 or else. People naturally want to respect their leader. In this case, respect doesn't matter. He wants you to fear him, and he will not hesitate to make an example out of you in order to encourage others to fear him as well. Staff are scapegoats who will always be to blame. He's the leader. It's his image that's most important. It's his name that everyone will remember. It's his face that everyone will see. The agency, the employees, and the clients are lucky to stand in his shadow. Due to this style of management, morale is on the underside of his shoes. The environment is so toxic and stressful.

Pros

The coworkers built lifetime friendships

Cons

Small groups are often at odds with employees, catty at times Pay discrepancies Employees are given cases based on supervisor preference After seeing the HR response, I don't feel right keeping silent any longer. I was a longterm employee. I was often handed the most dangerous cases despite pleas for my safety and offering suggestions on how to improve safety. This was not even remedied after a very violent situation in the office. I became aware than brand new trainees far exceeded my rate of pay with multiple years of experience and the credentials. We once had a meeting with the CEO at that time where he asked what would improve satisfaction. My suggestions were employee safety and salary evaluations due to unfair pay. The HR rep commenting on reviews reportedly approached my supervisor, advising her that I was "inappropriately challenging" him. After frank conversations with my coworkers and supervisors (not my own) that were present in the meeting, I am confident that I did not inappropriately address my concerns.
