Low employee valuation - Developer Horizon Hobby Employee Review

Pros

You will find great people working in the lower ranks.

Cons

Low compensation. Upper management is disconnected with the needs of the employees. Just a short time ago values used to be important. Your bonuses, 401k matching... are subject to change. The company moved from a "family owned - family first" to "somebody's investment portfolio" and the poor underpaid employees have drawn the short stick.

Your review is unsettling, and we definitely want to work with you to feel more positive about your employment relationship. Please speak to someone in your leadership team or Human Resources with your concerns. We most certainly do value our employees. Please let us know why you feel your needs are not understood. In terms of compensation, we evaluate our total rewards packages for internal and external equity. Of course bonuses are subject to change, based on individual and company performance. That's why they are part of incentive pay, not base pay. We did change our 401(k) match to be more like profit sharing, also to provide incentive for individuals to directly link their financial rewards with performance. Many employees feel Horizon is very family friendly, based on the benefits we provide that can also be used for family members (medical, dental, vision, and long term care insurance; fitness center membership; EAP services), as well as family friendly events we sponsor. We provide on-site health screenings for employees and spouses, we offer an on-site flu shot clinic for employees and families, we host Bring Your Kids to Work Day, a picnic for employees and family members, we provide scholarships for children of Horizonites, and we extend time off benefits that can be used for a variety of family needs. In addition, many areas work hard to accommodate work-life balance through flexible scheduling whenever possible. As a current employee, please use the resources available to you and talk to someone so we can address your concerns. We want to help restore your enthusiasm for Horizon.

Pros

Recognition & Rewards: Horizon has a genuinely motivating recognition culture. The points-based reward system is a standout policy I appreciated. It creates a tangible way for hard work to be acknowledged and rewarded, and it fosters a sense of healthy motivation across the team. It's the kind of initiative that shows a company actually values its employees, not just in words but in action. Plus you can use your points on gift cards, swag and restaurants. I got myself a Home Depot gift card. Work Life Balance: Horizon understands that employees have lives outside of work, and that balance was always respected. Never feeling like work was consuming my personal time made me a more focused and productive employee when I was on the clock. Exciting Products: Working with great products made the job genuinely enjoyable. There's a real sense of pride that comes with representing something you believe in, and at Horizon, that was never hard to do. We get to work with badass cars, planes and boats. Employee Product Testing: One of the most unique and appreciated perks was being able to take products home to test. As a dad with boys, this was especially meaningful, it made the products feel personal and gave real-world perspective that made me better at my job. That's a rare thing. Supportive Management: The leadership at Horizon sets the tone for everything. Having management that is approachable, supportive, and genuinely invested in their team makes all the difference in day-to-day work life. It's something you don't take for granted. Thank you Jenn!

Pros

Excellent benefits, Excellent Perks and rewards, top of the line PTO, great coworkers, a hobby experience like no other.

Cons

Management has no plan, flies by the seat of their pants and then shifts. They do not pay Product Support representatives the average, do not let glassdoor fool you with the average pay. there is no one who makes $21+ an hour, in fact I don't think anyone touches $20 an hour regardless how long they have been with the company. They do surveys but nothing changes or gets done. They do not like remote employees and no longer hire remotely.
