Pros

Family oriented and family friendly. People are nice, attentive, and friendly. Very rarely do you encounter jerks. Plenty of events to attend if you're single or with a family. Really great products you can use at work and then buy with the employee discount. Even those who do not work in product development can be seen flying or driving during breaks. Supportive company. If something bad happens to you, they will be there to help. I have seen several examples of this over the years. Benefits are comparable to other workplaces: 401k match, time off, wellness discounts, dental, vision. On the casual side of business casual for the most part. There is a concerted effort to improve the workplace. Plenty of other places would just be happy if things are not getting worse, but here there are many areas that are working hard to improve.

Cons

Experience will depend on your manager. If you have a good manager your experience will be good. If you have a bad manager... sometimes bad managers are dealt with immediately, but often times they are not. Good managers will get more responsibility picking up the slack for bad managers so that they have less time to be good managers. While work/life balance is something important to lower and middle management, it is not the case for upper management and it shows.

Thank you for sharing your insights on what it is like to be a Horizonite! We really appreciate your comments and your contributions to Horizon Hobby. Our people do make this is special place to work. Just the other day, a pizza delivery guy walked through our building with an order, and on the way out commented he had never seen a workplace with so many friendly and smiling people. Many employees refer friends and family to work at Horizon, and many new friendships form among coworkers. Our employees and the company often partner to provide help to others in times of need. We take care of each other, and even the most senior levels of leadership get personally involved. It is a support system unlike any I have ever seen at other companies, and is part of what defines Horizon’s culture. You are correct in your observation that we do make concerted efforts to improve. We encourage feedback, and while we cannot make every change requested or always do things as fast as we would like, we strive to hit the high expectations we have for ourselves. There are a number of managers who are fairly new to their roles, and we are working on ways to offer them the support they need to succeed. Employee development at all levels is important and needs to be a priority, so yes, even experienced managers can benefit from training and educational opportunities. Our goal is for every manager to be considered a great manager by their team. All feedback is shared with management, so thank you for providing input to incorporate into those conversations.

Pros

Recognition & Rewards: Horizon has a genuinely motivating recognition culture. The points-based reward system is a standout policy I appreciated. It creates a tangible way for hard work to be acknowledged and rewarded, and it fosters a sense of healthy motivation across the team. It's the kind of initiative that shows a company actually values its employees, not just in words but in action. Plus you can use your points on gift cards, swag and restaurants. I got myself a Home Depot gift card. Work Life Balance: Horizon understands that employees have lives outside of work, and that balance was always respected. Never feeling like work was consuming my personal time made me a more focused and productive employee when I was on the clock. Exciting Products: Working with great products made the job genuinely enjoyable. There's a real sense of pride that comes with representing something you believe in, and at Horizon, that was never hard to do. We get to work with badass cars, planes and boats. Employee Product Testing: One of the most unique and appreciated perks was being able to take products home to test. As a dad with boys, this was especially meaningful, it made the products feel personal and gave real-world perspective that made me better at my job. That's a rare thing. Supportive Management: The leadership at Horizon sets the tone for everything. Having management that is approachable, supportive, and genuinely invested in their team makes all the difference in day-to-day work life. It's something you don't take for granted. Thank you Jenn!

Pros

Excellent benefits, Excellent Perks and rewards, top of the line PTO, great coworkers, a hobby experience like no other.

Cons

Management has no plan, flies by the seat of their pants and then shifts. They do not pay Product Support representatives the average, do not let glassdoor fool you with the average pay. there is no one who makes $21+ an hour, in fact I don't think anyone touches $20 an hour regardless how long they have been with the company. They do surveys but nothing changes or gets done. They do not like remote employees and no longer hire remotely.
