Pros
Working at Houston Community College provides you with a great opportunity to interact with and truly help those who are attempting to better themselves. As an Enrollment Services Associate, I enjoyed the simple interactions that would occur during my shift from students of all walks of life. From high school students and college freshmen to the more mature adults who wanted to enroll into courses for personal enrichment, I enjoyed that aspect. The company gave me the freedom to work independently and I liked the overall atmosphere during my nearly three year tenure. Once you settle into your campus, your coworkers become an extension of your family.
Cons
I would encounter a conflict of company policies from time to time and would also find myself having to perform the responsibilities of other departments. This isn't to say that one shouldn't be collaborative with other departments but, when I found myself having to perform those duties with no increase in pay, that isn't good business practice. Also, higher management can be inconsistent and non supportive during the occasions that require a collaborative effort.
