Pros

Hvcu has a really great thorough and extensive training and onboarding process. If you are new to banking, it’d be a great first company to start with. Out of all the different banks I’ve worked at, Hvcu has the most clear cut procedures and knowledge at each employee’s fingertips. Their “knowledge center” is built like a google search engine which makes it very easy for employees to find step by step guidance for every scenario they encounter. There are live links within the procedures to bring you to specific forms you may need and the signature pad populates and automatically archives the forms for you. It is very efficient and effective to ensuring things are done correctly and properly at each branch. Unfortunately, you will not find many other banks with this type of technology for their staff.

Cons

Despite being a credit union, all they care about is sales and pushing their employees to squeeze the most out of every interaction. It’s so cringey. Some people just want to come in and take cash out and do not want to be harassed about different products or services. The goals that were expected of us were the most ive ever seen at any bank. If you met them, it wasnt “good job” it was “how can you do more”. Personally, the most uncomfortable I’ve felt was when “selling” payment protection on loans. They have you quote the monthly payment by saying “so it’ll be $450 per month and that includes principal, interest, and optional payment protection that is life and disability protection” and then if the member doesn’t question it, it is as if they agreed to have it on there and you can keep it on. Felt very car-salesman slimey. I hated it. I thought payment protection was an amazing feature and wish I could of tried to sell it my own way. Plus the amount of loans we needed to have payment protection on to meet our goals were unrealistic.

Thank you for leaving your review, it's clear that you put a lot of thought into both the pros and cons of your experience! Although it has always been the nature of HVCU to conduct needs based transactions, we consistently look for ways to improve. This year we've changed our member referral process to a C.A.R.E.S. based relationship model, which has been well received based on member satisfaction scores.

Pros

Big promote from within mentality for entry level, supervisory, and low level management

Cons

If you are an experienced professional, with 10 to 15 years of experience, but you are not high level leadership, you will struggle to get promoted over an internal candidate, even when the job is in your area of specialty.
