Pros
To clarify, I currently work in the UK office, within UK IQPC - we're a slightly complex company, made up of a number of smaller businesses for those not too sure! It's an enjoyable, dynamic business, which celebrates success and learns from its mistakes - something which in my opinion shouldn't be overlooked. This stems from a strong emphasis on core values, collaboration and teamwork. I won't pretend these don't get strained from time to time, but it's something that's hugely valued across all business units, irrespective of how long you've been here. I'm also one of those that have left the business previously and re-joined a number of years later, which I believe is a good indication that for those staying in the events industry, the grass is rarely greener. Importantly there are always opportunities for ambitious individuals. It's absolutely a meritocracy and management have earned their respective positions through strong performances, commercial awareness and an alignment with the core values I referred to earlier.
Cons
The office isn't quite the Google campus, nor is the IT system, but these aren't real concerns - though we know improvements are on the way, which is nice! I'd also point out that whilst this place feels like home for me, I know it's not for everyone - it's the nature of most commercially-minded businesses that some don't buy in to the long term vision, don't connect with their teams or don't enjoy the products and campaigns they work on. For anyone reading this, unsure whether to accept a job, considering leaving or unhappy in their position my advice would be to talk to management, it's one of the few places I've worked where they do actually listen and take positive steps to help those affected wherever possible.
