Pros

There is a lot of change happening, but it's clear many people care deeply for the success of the company and show it. The start-up perks are still there (food, WFH, pets in the office, good opportunities for promotion, good PTO situation), and growth is still happening. Tight knit teams with both long-tenured folks and new ones. There are far worse places to work, and good work is still acknowledged and appreciated. Employees still have autonomy in their roles where at most companies at this stage, they would not.

Cons

The transition from start-up to the next stage has been rough. Communication has become poorer than it was, E-team is more elusive and their attempts to humanize themselves to the rest of the company are lacking. New executive members have not made a graceful or considerate entrance into the company, and it has caused more tension and skepticism for employees about their future here and their significance.

First off, thank you. What you’ve shared and contributed here is immensely valuable to our Illumio team and I see you living our values. Your perspective is insightful and honest and we hope that you will continue to share it and dialogue with us through the channels you are most comfortable with. We agree that the transition from a small start up to a mid-sized and global company is (and continues to be) challenging and we’re glad that you and much of the team haven’t forgotten that all these changes are creating the vision that we’ve all worked so hard to realize. We’re confident that the mix of tight-knit teams that you mentioned, both long-tenured and new are the right people to execute on our mission. These growing pains are caused by something positive: growth. They have a compelling purpose and although they are hard, it is a chance for all of us to run to the challenges and become better and stronger together. As you noted, autonomy is an important part of how Illumio operates. We trust our team members to bring their best and be accountable to their work and team. One of the benefits of autonomy (complemented by tight-knit teams) is that we all feel a great sense of ownership here because we are all owners. All of us, including our executive team are working to find the right balance between how much we should shoulder on our own versus sharing with the team. We appreciate that our colleagues feel as much responsibility for our challenges as they do for their own. With time and a concerted effort to find common ground, we hope that this will help us all built trust on shared history rather than perfection. This shift will likely be driven by team members like you with a mature and insightful appreciation for who we are, where we’re going and what’s needed to get us there. And as always, in a tactical sense if there are thing you would like to see us change, add or do differently, please reach out to any of us directly with that feedback; we would love to have it. Pros

Transparent, open culture – Illumio emphasizes honesty and direct communication, even on tough topics Recognition-driven environment – wins are celebrated across teams and employees are recognized by peers and leadership Collaborative + partnership mindset – teams operate with accountability and strong cross-functional alignment Inclusive and diverse workplace – strong emphasis on belonging, varied backgrounds, and different perspectives

Cons

High standards, accountability, and pressure to perform Not necessarily negative—but can feel intense depending on the team/role. Change happens often if you don't like change you will not like it here. I love change and I love that we are always trying to improve or be better. 401(k) plan without company matching- this is normal for our stage and employee count but candidates mention this alot. I wanted to flag it. They do give us a retirement savings account and mine is doing well but no match.
