Pros
This company is a not for profit quasi-government agency that provides health insurance to the underserved (Medicaid and Healthy Families). At that time I worked there, they were very in tune with their mission of providing excellent service and quality of care to this population. They also did a great job of keeping staff informed of regulatory impact, changes, major decisions that affected the company, etc. They also tried to make the environment fun, while always pushing for quality. They also, at the time, liked to promote from within when someone was qualified.
Cons
The pay was often not competitive because of the status of the business and the fact that it was located in the Inland Empire. Of the 10 years I worked there, I had only 2 actual pay increases, as I was always at the maximum salary - instead I got a "bonus" in the amount that would have been a raise, but it kept my annual pay static during that time. There was often a lot of overtime involved, but since I was salaried, I did not receive extra compensation. I often disagreed with the overall management decision to treat salaried employees like hourly employee, by docking for doctor appointments or other such things without pay, or having to use your sick time or personal time, when you worked a lot of hours without overtime, whereas hourly employees got paid overtime. Apparently they had a "waiver" to allow this.
