Pros

The discount is the only positive.

Cons

I was employed for J. Crew for 2 months and was never scheduled to work at all. I left my previous retail clothing employer for J. Crew in hopes of moving up the retail ladder, however it was the most unprofessional and confusing experience in the 5 years I have been working retail. I had no way to contact any managers or the store other than calling the store directly or driving to work. They require employees to pick up their schedules for the week in person, and for 8 weeks, I drove to work in hopes for any kind of a shift, and I was not scheduled a single day. I am now returning to my former retail job, and will never recommend working for J. Crew to any of my friends and coworkers. I also was hired under the impression that the commission rate would allow for my pay to be more than my previous job. Not only did they give me a lower base pay than my previous retail job, the commission percentage was an absolute joke. If I had ACTUALLY been scheduled, then I would have been making less money than I had ever been making.

Pros

There are a lot of talented, hardworking people at this company, which makes recent leadership decisions even more frustrating.

Cons

Communication around major organizational changes has been vague and inconsistent, leaving employees with significant uncertainty and little confidence in the direction of the business. Morale has declined considerably. Many employees feel that years of experience, performance, and institutional knowledge are being undervalued in favor of rigid policies and top-down decision making.
