Pros
Good place to meet intelligent people who live in the community. If the store is in low traffic area, you’ll get to work alone. Paid (working) lunch hour and employee discount, however, I think these benefits will soon be cut because the company is in huge financial distress.
Cons
Company gives little to no direction on how to meet sales goals. Vague advice that doesn’t work. Managers have very little knowledge of fabrics, textiles, etc and are beginner stylists, which is ridiculous considering they expect you to bombard customers with emails, and even phone calls, inviting them in to shop. What incentive do they have when you’re not even knowledgeable of what you’re selling. They contribute a lot of waste by damaging out clothes that can be easily mended to get a write off. Confusing return policy to follow. There is NO HR. If you have any problem at all with your manager, you cannot go to your district manager, they’ll tell you to talk to your GM about it, but how do you go to a manager about themselves? That being said, the culture of kindness is all lies. They are Brentwood private equity, not JMcLaughlin who originally created that code of ethics. It’s just not worth it.
