Pros

Penneys looked like a fun place to work and meet nice people. The store has great sales and discounts and knowledgeable employees.

Cons

Beware of working in the jewelry department. It's minimum wage plus a very small commission, which the company seems to continually hack away at. Expectations by the company are high for employees to sell, upsell, get customers to apply for credit, and sell service plans. You will be unceremoniously dumped if monthly goals are not met. Never mind that the store is often empty of customers. When it is decided that you must be terminated, a grotesque canned script is read to you and then you are asked if you have any questions. Really?? How about comments instead?!

Pros

If you like working early morning hours and getting off early in the afternoon (which I do) this is a great part-time job. I was a college student when I worked here so it worked perfectly with my schedule. The pay is pretty decent and the people you work with are friendly.

Cons

Only real downside is that it's retail. You're going to run into some rude customers from time to time. There's always work to do and not enough time given to do it sometimes. But as long as you work hard and managers see that you're trying your best there isn't too much pressure put on you.
