They're nasty when they fire you, but awesome when they hire you. - Senior Manager JCPenney Employee Review

Pros

* There's a Subway restaurant inside the corporate headquarters building. * On Fridays, the building is a ghost-town by 4:00pm. In fact, hours are very good in general. * The vacation policy is awesome. It's *not* based on your length of employment at JCPenney, but rather upon your years of work experience anywhere. I wish all companies did it this way.

Cons

* There is virtually no information-sharing between departments. * When they fire someone who is Sr. Manager or higher they usually hold a huge mandatory department-wide meeting where they announce it to the world. Very tacky. I've worked at companies that did things the opposite way, where the company would just silently make people disappear. And that's just as bad. But JCPenney swings the pendulum too far in the opposite direction. * You won't get any severance if they fire you. Also, don't expect them to have a reason for firing you either.

Pros

If you like working early morning hours and getting off early in the afternoon (which I do) this is a great part-time job. I was a college student when I worked here so it worked perfectly with my schedule. The pay is pretty decent and the people you work with are friendly.

Cons

Only real downside is that it's retail. You're going to run into some rude customers from time to time. There's always work to do and not enough time given to do it sometimes. But as long as you work hard and managers see that you're trying your best there isn't too much pressure put on you.
