Pros

A job gives you standard benefits for the area (insurance, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off).

Cons

It's the company you read about in a book as an example of bad culture, high turnover, and low engagement. Incredibly toxic culture with constant fault-finding and micromanagement. The directors don't trust the managers, the managers don't trust the employees, and the employees don't trust each other. No chance at a work-life balance, constant nights and weekends, leadership won't think you are 'busy' until you are logging 60 hours a week in the time tracker. We have dozens of teams with no cooperation or coordination, 200 different projects being 'championed' by 20 different managers or directors. Everything is done in a crunch, teams have to bring in their own contractors on the side because the business can't or won't support a director's latest 'initiative'. Insane amounts of technical debt, cutting corners for deadlines, project management is lacking, incomplete projects are delayed or canceled. The company laid off a bunch of the full time employees for being unproductive, replaced with contractors, the contractors are just as unproductive because the lack of leadership is the real problem. We lost two full teams of developers to the constant turnover but never backfilled ... now we have software platforms with no day-to-day support. The board of directors took a 'big step' by telling us to stop any projects that don't fall into categories of new technology, better controls, or business growth ... every project falls into one of the categories so it didn't change a thing.

Pros

A strong company with a long history of success. Jewelers Mutual is full of curious and collaborative people that want to see others and the company succeed. I have never been part of such a supportive organization.

Cons

Fast moving company so sometimes it would be beneficial if we slowed down.

Pros

Good benefits like 401k match and a decent amount of PTO

Cons

Career advancement and compensation reviews appear to be extremely limited, even when employees take on substantially expanded responsibilities and perform work well beyond their original job descriptions. Managers who attempt to advocate for title changes or salary adjustments face significant resistance, making meaningful discussions about employee growth difficult to have. While the same people keep getting promoted.
