Pros

Good benefits Good PTO Worked with some truly talented individuals Some faculty and staff were real great people

Cons

Micromanagement from assistant director that lead to several employees leaving and stress/anxiety/panic attacks. No support from leadership to transition into other positions within the department. Workload disproportionate with salary. Asked to do the work of 2-3 employees. Very low salary in comparison to market average (about 30% below avg) Management that does not enforce set standards and makes exceptions for the most vocal groups. Stress filled environment Nepotism

Pros

Those are really good opportunities for you to gain more experience on your resume while in school. Depending on who your supervisor is, you will get different projects and experience. It's not just strictly "lab research" like the name suggests. Also, beyond your job, you will learn a lot from your professor, aka supervisor, too. In my experience, I have worked with multiple professors, and they are all amazing people who understand you're still a student, are very flexible with your schedule, and always push for your success. Big pros: You get a tuition waiver depending on your job's tier (meaning how much work and how many hours per week you work, which is stated clearly on the website and by your supervisor). There's a stipend paid on top of that.

Cons

I haven't had any cons so far.

Pros

The only true "pro" to this career and this employer is the job security. As long as you do your job and do it well, it is likely that you'll remain employed here. If you get lucky, like I did, you'll work with a great immediate team of folks.

Cons

No upper movement. The company would much rather bring in outside hires rather than promote from within. Pay is on the lowest end of the USG for this role. Work/life balance is absolutely horrible.
