Pros

Some good colleagues trying their best

Cons

Hands down the worst library administration I’ve ever worked for. They’re openly antagonistic to faculty and staff and have no long-term plan for growing the library into one that can serve an R2 institution. I was misled during the interview process about the job I would be doing, what campus I would be doing it at, and why there was so much turnover (hint: it’s not just people retiring). My key card couldn’t access my office (or any other necessary space) for over a month – this slowness regarding literally everything seems to be the rule, not an exception. I was told on several occasions “that’s just the way we do things here” and yeah, weird flex. If you’re a librarian, you get one day of telework a week (but we weren’t allowed to call it teleworking because the new Chancellor didn’t like it – office hours instead) even if your job can be done fully remotely. The library did not close during the pandemic and many staff (and almost every student) no longer wear masks. The pay is lowest in the area and, though Cobb Co. might be considered “Metro Atlanta,” it feels like a different planet. Avoid if you can!

Pros

Co-workers (most of them) are amazing and I miss them!

Cons

-Toxic leadership: Admin refuses to do anything about the horrible environment at the KSU libraries, mainly because it revolves around them. This has lead to over 25 people leaving within the last 2 year. -No growth: you don't have anywhere to go and if you apply for another job within the organization it's an obligation to give you an interview, even if you don't fit the job. They can get your hopes up but have no intention to giving you a second interview. -Favoritism: Not surprising but there are a select few people who are "favored" and therefore no matter what they do, they will not get reprimanded -Turnover: due to the extremely high turnover rate people are expected to do two, sometimes three different jobs without being given any time to do those two-three jobs or being given compensation. -Raises, don't look here: There are no raises, not even for cost of living. Staff work for nothing and are expected to do way more than they should. -Racism and sexism: You will encounter this here. Not blatantly but it will be there. One example is when someone within upper administration continued to forget all the letters in LGBTQIA+, even after going to safe space training (which they arrived late for and left early). When corrected they just said "you know all those letters". -Expected to work more than the 40+ hours you will be working. There is a terrible lack of work/life balance here, which stems from upper admin sending out emails on Saturdays and Sundays, or calling/texting your personal cell phone. I have even been contacted via Facebook Messenger with work things from my former supervisor.
