Pros
The most significant pros about working for Kowalski's would be there flexibility and encouragement to crosstrain into other departments, if you're interested in the retail world, as well as their strong benefits offered through the union after a year of employment.
Cons
The biggest downside to Kowalski's is their unwillingness to promote to full-time. The glass-ceiling is very low and there is a significant amount of nepotism that goes on. Having worked at several locations, I can confidently say that the cultures are inconsistent from store to store and exceptions and exemptions are often made. Having known several employees with at least 10 years experience still working on a register and not really being given the opportunity for growth, unless we're speaking just a new title, it became clear that keeping labor cheaper at the cost of having higher turnover took precedence over actually building current employees to prepare for the future. If they can't keep quality employees there how can they prepare for the future, especially claiming to be such a family driven business.
