Pros

LPL Financial has a rigorous hiring process, and I genuinely appreciate the effort the company puts into recruiting talented engineers. The interview process is thorough, and it is clear that the company aims to hire skilled professionals. However, my experience after joining was very different. One of the biggest challenges was the lack of clear expectations and consistent technical guidance. Engineers often had to rework features because requirements and expectations were not clearly defined. There was also limited clarity around deployment processes, hosting environments, and ownership, which created unnecessary bottlenecks and made it difficult to deliver work efficiently.

Cons

What concerned me most was the performance evaluation process. From my perspective, significant employment decisions appeared to be influenced by feedback from a limited number of individuals rather than by a comprehensive review of an engineer’s actual contributions, code quality, problem-solving ability, collaboration, and overall body of work. I felt that my efforts and contributions were not fully considered before decisions were made. For a company that invests considerable time and resources in recruiting talented people, it would be beneficial to ensure that performance evaluations are objective, evidence-based, and consider input from multiple stakeholders. This would help retain strong engineers and create a more transparent and fair work environment.
