Cons
rewardStyle isn't a terrible place to work, but it's also not that great. 2018 hasn't been very kind to us. Somethings were beyond our control, like the Instagram API change. Other things were well within our control, though. - Stock valuation done before instagram changed their API, and it's very possible that our options are worth much less now. - Close to 20 employees have quit rewardStyle Engineering since the start of the year. More are rumored to be looking. - The atmosphere in Engineering feels heavy. I know it's a job, it doesn't have to be fun; but it was a fun place to work at one time. - Too many managers. For example, a team with 4 engineers will have an engineering manager, a product manager (or 2), and a program manager. Their bosses can easily get involved, so directors of product, and VPs of engineering. And an architect. So, 4 worker bees, and up to twice as many people offering opinions, asking for status updates, and generally just blocking progress. - Too many meetings. Really, wtf? - Too much agile. See above. Just stop it already. - Don't get me started on Kickoffs, Elaborations, and Analysis and Estimations. Most teams were delivering before any of that went into effect. Its just a way for people to justify their jobs. - Too much process. See the previous few points. - Too much process. Just want to say that again. So, my job seems worse after writing this review. I never sat down and organized my thoughts on work like this before. And there's a lot that I dislike and haven't added to this review.
