Pros
On March 13th, 2020, MITRE notified everyone to implement an emergency work-from-home as part of the COVID-19 isolation policy. It is now August 17th, 2021, and Delta Variant is ramping up. MITRE started nudging everyone back to work this summer, but when Delta wave became obvious, they reversed course. They have now implemented a policy that only fully-vaccinated persons are allowed in MITRE buildings, and partially-vaccinated are allowed while masked. MITRE has been forward leaning on Inclusion and Diversity topics! The CEO has been fielding harsh anonymous questions live on Mondays, and he's maintained quite the composure as he's been bombarded on all sides by anti-COVID-vaccination and anti-I&D questions and statements. I spent twelve years in industry before my nearly-six-years at MITRE, and I have never seen a company this large be so employee friendly. I still know a lot of people in industry, and many of them have been forced back into the office during COVID-19 for really no good reason beyond they have to have butts in seats.
Cons
Even before COVID-19, work was slow. This might sound like a good thing to a certain type of person, but I've seen those people genuinely get bored and jump ship within a year. MITRE sells "good advice." You really have to be an expert in your field and your field has to be in demand by the FFRDCs that MITRE operates for you to feel like you have a worthwhile contribution.
