MITRE reviews about "pay"

Middle management (e.g., PMs and DMs) lack skills beyond managing contracts and have very content or technical expertise. Three to four layers of management reviewers on projects and their salaries will kill a budget leaving very few resources for the technical experts to do their jobs. MITRE is also very expensive to the federal government, charging millions of dollars to simply produce poor quality reports.

Lots of boring work, good stuff can be hard to find, Pay lower than other places

Company lost its way long ago. After 2 years, new president has had no positive impact. There is no leadership or management of quality. Hiring third rate people to fill the gaps, not the exceptional employees they should be hiring. Sponsors no longer differentiate MITRE from SETA contractors. Pay and benefits are below competitive with others in the industry, with endless money to keep too many layers of leadership employed.

- new CEO retaining and promoting the inept old guard executives - inept executives continue to try to compete with tech industry giants. They pander to congress promising the company won’t compete, but the executives are unable to navigate the market and the company is failing miserably - one third of the company recently laid off - still not enough billable hours for the remaining staff - nearly all current project choices mundane but necessary for company survival - pay below market. With few exceptions, base pay is total compensation - annual raises below cost of living increase for three years running

Lost a lot of respect for the company during the four years I worked there. Not much room for growth or change in salary. Everyone (management/ leadership) was better at making the work sound more important than actually doing important, long lasting, impactful work. But that’s often just consulting I suppose.

After a year of massive RIFs, most folks are doing the work of 2 or 3 people without any meaningful pay increase. Benefits have steadily decreased.

Non-Existent training, Incompetent Mid-Level Management, Upper Level Management who are too busy keeping themselves employed while they cut down a whole bunch of people below them in times of layoffs.
