Despite the strength of the mission, I would not recommend working here at this time. • Organizational instability: While some level of ambiguity is expected in a fast-growing startup, the level of disorganization here stems largely from three issues: 1. Ineffective and occasionally counterproductive senior leadership, 2. Slow, inconsistent product decision-making driven by a chaotic product organization, and 3. A people culture that lacks cohesion, engagement, and clear ownership. • Lack of psychological safety and trust: Many employees do not feel supported or safe to take risks or make mistakes. Senior leaders frequently respond to challenges with blame rather than coaching, which discourages open communication and hampers learning. This behavior appears to originate at the executive level and influences leadership patterns throughout the organization. There is particular concern regarding the executive responsible for product and operations, whose influence remains significant despite long-standing product performance issues and repeated reports of inappropriate behavior and demoralizing leadership practices. This dynamic leads to an environment where employees are afraid to speak up, innovate, or challenge assumptions—conditions that are incompatible with high-performing, forward-thinking teams. • Low engagement and feeling undervalued: Employee morale within Product, Engineering, and Design has been low for years, with minimal visible action taken to address root causes. Professional growth, recognition, and development are not prioritized, and the HR function has limited authority to drive meaningful cultural improvements. Many employees feel their contributions are undervalued. • Business challenges: The company’s growth has slowed, and it has struggled to evolve its product strategy and revenue model to remain competitive. While the long-term outlook is not necessarily dire, it is uncertain and requires stronger product leadership and operational discipline than is currently in place. Overall: Given the cultural issues, leadership dynamics, and business challenges, I would not recommend this as a workplace at present. There are many healthcare organizations with similarly impactful missions that are better led, healthier culturally, and more supportive environments for employees to do their best work.
