Pros

If you’re reading this, you’re more than likely considering a job at Maven. I was there once, too! Many years ago. Here are some of my thoughts for you: - If you’re early in your career, Maven is the place for you because there are so many people to learn from. And they are good, kind, mission-driven people who will make every effort to help you grow. - If you’re in the middle of your career and feeling that itch for something new/different, consider Maven. There are too few companies that actually make people’s lives better, and even fewer where the majority of the company and of leadership is female, and the CEO/Founder is a mom. There is a different tone and vibe at Maven, and you’ll feel it right away. This is a special place. - If you are a more senior professional and Maven is considering you, it’s because there is a place for you to share your expertise and have impact. A lot of companies will tell you they offer this, but Maven means it. Decisions are made by the leadership team, not any one person. It’s a no-politics, collegial place where the success of the business speaks for itself. Maven was founded by a humble builder, and the company is a success because it is led by a team of them.

Cons

So many people think they are ready for a career at a startup. This includes people who are early in their career and people with decades of work experience at large companies, consulting firms, etc. If you’re considering working at Maven and you’ve never worked at a startup, really ask yourself if you are prepared for the adjustment. It’s a big one! First, how fast can you move? What Mavens have in common is a bias to act. We don’t like to sit around and wait - women and families can’t afford for us to move slowly - so if we make a decision on a Monday, be prepared to see it come to fruition on Tuesday. We’ll need you to keep up with us. Second, how do you react under pressure? Are you calm and steady, or do you panic? Healthcare is complex, and (especially in 2022) ever-changing. Our work requires us to be nimble, expect the unexpected, and embrace change in service of our members and our business. Priority shifts, reversals, and being reactive to the industry/new legislation/new regulations is not uncommon. Mavens know that change is the constant, and it’s important to roll with those changes to keep the business moving forward. Finally, what are you like to work with? Seriously. What feedback have you received in the past about your working style? Mavens value collaboration, and that’s only possible in a no-jerk environment. Mavens are known for their empathy, and they balance that with direct, honest feedback. This model works well because the people who work at Maven are decent, kind, and caring. You have to be, too.

Pros

I joined Maven in September because the mission resonated, and the work genuinely lives up to it. The impact on members isn't marketing language. It's the actual product of what people here do every day. A few things that have stood out: - I've already been promoted, which says a lot about how the company recognizes contribution and growth. - I have real autonomy to own my work and move things forward without being bottlenecked. - The culture is collaborative in a way that's rare, and people across the org have been generous with their time and support. If you care about doing meaningful work and want to be somewhere that bets on you early, Maven is worth a serious look.

Cons

Fast paced environment, but that's expected (and honestly part of the appeal) for a company in this stage of growth.

Pros

Met some coworkers turned life long friends

Cons

This place destroyed my mental health. Management does not care about you, they only care about the numbers on the paper.
