Pros

I was recruited to Medidata from a competitor. Slight bump in pay, the big draw for me was the working from home ability. Has its good and bad like all companies. The Senior leadership, President and CEO feel inspiring, seem to really know what they want to do and can convince you you want to do it. Middle management is poor, a lot depends on the group you end up in. If I could have foreseen what was too come, I would not have left my last company.

Cons

Bait and switch. I was hired in at a Senior level position, but was dropped down a notch title wise. This is apparently a common practice there. Onboarding was not good, being remote, after the first 2 weeks, couldn't get a hold of my manager for 3 weeks by IM. Phone, email. Was not sure what to do, and was never available when I needed him/her. When they did get in touch, a lot of micro-managing Travel is more than advertised, I was clear how much or little I wanted to travel, and my travel ended up being double. Vacation policy, for salaried employees they have a 'unlimited PTO' policy. I asked several people at different times to see the written policy which was no where to be found. When I was leaving the company, this affected me as there was no vacation pay, even though I used very little PTO. Your reviewed by your manager, but their is no recourse if you disagree with the manager. You are expected to agree to your review, even though you may not. No recourse No plan for career advancement, when I asked what it would take to move to a different role, the only answer given was to learn more products. I tried for a couple different positions while I was there, and was given no help by my manager, and in one case was told they purposely gave some mis-information so I did not get the new opportunity

Thank you for your comments. We do pride ourselves on having great flexible work arrangements, and inspiring leaders! Onboarding is something that we are actually in the process of improving, so we appreciate the feedback about your new hire experience! We are re-vamping the entire process so the first impression our new hires have of Medidata is a great one. Being a remote employee is one of the many perks we have at Medidata, but we understand the experience will be a lot different than being in office. Our unlimited PTO policy is a perk that our employees are very happy about and we find that new hires love coming to a company that offers such a great benefit. The unlimited PTO policy can be easily found on our intranet, Medidata Express, along with all of our other policies. Mid-year reviews are a great time to sit down with your manager and discuss career path and growth in the company as we are always promoting from within and encourage our employees to explore their interests in different areas. As far as the position being releveled, this may have happened two years ago when we were striving for consistency across the company and did go through an internal position leveling calibration. Today's practice is very consistent, you know what level you are interviewing for and that doesn't change unless your actual position changes.

Pros

The company was fantastic when I first started working there, the culture was embracing and supportive. Folks seem to care about your development at first and your growth.

Cons

After 3ds bought the company it started going downhill gradually, many c suite turnover, terminations and new latest CEO is clueless when it comes to executing the vision, while also making sure they continue delivering on NEXT all on all these features when at launch half of them don’t even work properly. Having spent years at the company I saw clients lose trust on the products and leadership, a lot of times CEO’s from client side would give advice on senior management on processes which being the vendor we should be the leaders on guidance not the other way around. Consider applying to other SaaS companies.
