Pros

Wonderful, dedicated, smart colleagues New HQ space is impressive and lovely to be in. Mission of helping the most vulnerable is inspiring and feels good. Fun parties, interesting learning events, fun crossfunctional MC soccer team

Cons

Colleagues there because they believe in it and love to travel but don't necessarily have professional training in project management, using and evaluating evidence, business processes, monitoring and evaluation, research to name a few I run into in my work. HR management particularly incompetent. Recruiters understaffed and overworked so don't always follow up. Senior managers not good at delivering bad news or managing their direct reports. People management is problematic and people managers are not held accountable. Often who gets hired and who gets let go is very political and driven by the CEO and top manager's favorites. Cronyism. If you are a CEO favorite they'll always find a role for you if yours ends or there is a re-org. MC says they are all about using participatory methods out in the field but they don't use this at HQ with their own staff. Lack of consultation with their own experts.

Pros

It’s a very tough time to be in ID but MC continues to stay afloat and is trying to pivot in this new landscape. I maintain the staff that’s still here is some of the best of the best, everyone really cares and continues to challenge me and push our programs to do better.

Cons

Outlook is uncertain given donor environment. No real opportunities for professional growth. Ongoing RIFs and loss of talented staff.
